
DUMAGUETE CITY – The Metro Pacific Dumaguete Water Services, Inc. Laboratory has recently obtained the Certificate of Authority to Operate (CATO) a Chemical Laboratory from the Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry and the Certificate of Accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH).
With these two certifications, the Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) Laboratory has attained the status of being the only Category C Laboratory authorized to conduct drinking water analysis in Negros Oriental in addition to its being the sole chemical testing laboratory with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Certificate of Authority to Operate (CATO) in the City.
MDW Chief Operating Officer David Berba said the accreditation signifies a milestone in MDW’s commitment to delivering safe and potable water in Dumaguete City. “With the capacity to conduct comprehensive microbiological, physical, and chemical analyses, the laboratory is well-equipped to serve the water testing needs of individuals and organizations in the city and nearby towns,” he added.
The Laboratory’s accreditation had been lined up as among the company’s priorities for 2023. “By offering reliable water testing services to commercial and industrial entities, MDW hopes to further ensure that the water quality will always be compliant to Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water in accordance with DOH Standards,” Berba said.
Berba also said that this achievement is not just a milestone for MDW, but for the City of Dumaguete. “This initiative not only enhances public health but also supports the overall well-being and development of Dumaguete City,” he said.
The Metro Dumaguete Water is the Joint Venture company formed by the Dumaguete City Water District and the Metro Pacific Water to rehabilitate and upgrade the water infrastructure in the City beginning February 1, 2021.
A category C laboratory classification boasts of a wider service capability as a microbiological, physical, and chemical laboratory. The laboratory can cater requests to analyze drinking water samples from restaurants, fast food chains, hotels, resorts, water refilling stations, and other private entities that offer water to the public.
