Metro Dumaguete Water procures generators to prepare for power outages
Jun 24, 2021

DUMAGUETE CITY – Metro Pacific Dumaguete Water Services Inc. or Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW), a joint venture between Metro Pacific Water (MPW) and Dumaguete City Water District (DCWD), has procured three (3) generator sets for its pumping stations in response to the series of regular power outages in the City. Two generators arrived less than five months since the start of MDW’s operations last February 1, 2021.

MDW COO David Berba ordered the procurement of generator sets after seeing the effects of blackouts on four (4) MDW pumping stations, which then contributed to low water pressure and lack of water supply in several barangays.

“These generator sets are the first of many investments MDW is making to improve our City’s water services. We hear the public, and whatever we can do quickly to create the improvements we need, we implement, and this is one of them,” Berba said.

The three (3) generators procured by MDW include two (2) newly-procured sets and one newly-reconditioned generator. Berba shared that the decision to procure these generator sets was a prompt response to an apparent problem. “The solution was direct and simple contrary to the bigger issues of low pressure and water supply which takes more study given that the water pipelines’ map itself needs to be updated,” he continued. This measure is aligned with MDW’s ongoing efforts to improve water services in Dumaguete.

Last month, a team of independent technical experts arrived in Dumaguete to conduct various tests which would determine the conditions of the pumping stations in the City.

More studies are expected to be made in the coming months to provide a better understanding of Dumaguete’s resources and to help MDW come up with the final blueprint for additional wells and reservoirs.

The end-goal of these efforts is to secure 24/7 water availability, improved water pressure, additional wells and reservoirs, enhanced customer service, and stronger partnerships through sustainability programs with DCWD.
